This review is a double first for us. It's our first sweet wine, and our first wine greek. In view of this wine is serving a full sweetness is quite small. It is not, repeat, do not drink a wine like this full portions. I'm really sorry, sick and drunk on dessert wines. If you think you can be Retsina Greek wine, wine tasting, the resin is still an important part of greek thought the wine market. I can not find these wines reviewed here, and notbecause of the price.
Samos is a small mountainous island in the Aegean Sea off the coast of Turkey. Its people have been producing wine for more than three thousand years. The Muscat grape is a relatively new and probably introduced in the sixteenth century. The grapes have been grown based on the slopes of Mount Ampelos a maximum height of half a mile (less than a mile) from a local cooperative in 1930. The wine will be reviewed in their base product, their top of the line isSamos Anthemis the. I usually limit my quotations of marketing materials, but I'm exceptionally one of my favorite wine reviewers, Tom Stevenson, give "One of the great sweet wines of the world ... all are excellent, perfectly balanced, rich and harmonious wine .. . If you agree with Tom, you're a bargain.

Wine rated:
Samos Vin Doux 2007 15% alcohol about $ 9(For a half-bottle)
Let's start with marketing materials. Tasting Note: increased by 100% Muscat, these fortified wines is in a semi-mountainous island of Samos. The nose has lovely aromas of honey and Earl Grey tea and oranges. Sweet, but balanced by a seam good acidity, the wine is smooth textured with beautiful honey, peach, pear, marzipan, straw, almond and floral notes. Lively and clean with excellent length, would be a nice gift after dinner. (Vintages panel,July 2008) And now my review.
I started with this sip their wine. It 'was the liquid honey and pleasantly acidic. So far, so good. For dessert wine paired with food, I rarely. The tastings were all made on several occasions. First I tried an almond meringue cookies. The wine had a flavor of the tea and was a little medicine. On the positive side I was tired and that was a nice pick me up. I tasted the wine supply lemon grass, but not the flavor of almonds.
Itried this wine bar covered with a high quality vanilla ice cream with dark chocolate. The taste of tea was dominant, I 'm not a fan of tea in my cup, let alone in my wine glass. With fresh honeydew Samos was thick and a bit 'medicines.
My supermarket sells sometimes a French-style cake with a buttery crust, much lemon, it is better to eat out of the freezer. And what cost this cake out of the wine extract, honeysuckle have.
Ben and Jerry's came with a new taste, at least in our neighborhood. If I had a million flavors, which was mostly chocolate and vanilla, and was frankly disappointing. But I do not have control of the ice, I'm checking dessert wine. I have a bit of honey and tea, but the combination was anything but a success.
Then I tried some sweets called rogelach that included nuts and coconut. The new variant of citrus and was pleasant, the varieties of tea and old drugs and they were not.
To branch out, I tried this> dessert wine with sweet poppy seed bagel covered cream cheese and 5% of Atlantic salmon. The wine tasted mostly of honey. I think the ring was immersed in water with sugar, I, the salmon is cured in sugar cane. Well, unlike many cream cheese, soft cheese did not taste so sweet at all. However, what influences the taste of wine and taste of honey tea later.
The last meal was a grilled chicken breast that waslightly marinated spicy Thai barbecue sauce and then lightly covered with more sauce. I was hoping that the sweetness of the sauce would complement the sweetness of the wine. He did not. The wine is actually better with crushed beans in a tomato that had a hint of sweetness.
I tried to Samos with fresh strawberries. And 'long and has been a good balance of acidity and sweetness. But after the strawberries are gone, is back for the taste of tea. Iclosed couples with a unique cheese, Emmental (Switzerland). The combination was very interesting, the wine is sweet with good acidity and a bit 'fruit.
Judgement. I apologize to Tom Stevenson. I would not buy this wine again. Believe it or not, are about a quarter of a bottle left and do not know what to do with the rest. Innovative chefs can use it to create interesting sauces, but I do not think I take this opportunity. I will say one thing: if there is much tobest wine I tasted last Retsina. I'll be back for more and more wines greek dessert wines.
